In preparation for exhumation, the following is required:
Graves not older than 65 years
- Application and Affidavit from the family for the exhumation and re-burial/cremation and the place of re-burial;
- Permission from the following departments to do the exhumation and re-burial/cremation: Police, Department of Environmental Affairs; Municipality;
- If there is a family dispute, a letter from the court is needed to do the exhumation and re-burial/cremation.
- Note: BFSG shall assist the family to obtain the necessary documents
Graves older than 65 years
- Letter from SAHRA and LIHRA with the Case ID to do the exhumation and re-burial;
- Letter from the Archeologist informing BFSG of the exhumation and re-burial.
Note: An archeologist is required in order to obtain all the necessary documents and permission letters for the exhumation and re-burial;
In preparation for repatriation, copies of the following documents are required:
- Passport of the deceased;
- Death Certificate from Home Affairs;
- Work/ Residence permit;
- Embalming certificate (in case of a private mortuary);
- Non-infection letter from a Doctor;
- Conveyance letter from Ministry of Heath;
- Burial order from Home Affairs.
