In preparation for exhumation, the following is required:

Graves not older than 65 years

  • Application and Affidavit from the family for the exhumation and re-burial/cremation and the place of re-burial;
  • Permission from the following departments to do the exhumation and re-burial/cremation: Police, Department of Environmental Affairs; Municipality;
  • If there is a family dispute, a letter from the court is needed to do the exhumation and re-burial/cremation.
  • Note: BFSG shall assist the family to obtain the necessary documents

 

Graves older than 65 years

  • Letter from SAHRA and LIHRA with the Case ID to do the exhumation and re-burial;
  • Letter from the Archeologist informing BFSG of the exhumation and re-burial.

 

Note: An archeologist is required in order to obtain all the necessary documents and permission letters for the exhumation and re-burial; 

 

In preparation for repatriation, copies of the following documents are required:

  • Passport of the deceased;
  • Death Certificate from Home Affairs;
  • Work/ Residence permit;
  • Embalming certificate (in case of a private mortuary);
  • Non-infection letter from a Doctor;
  • Conveyance letter from Ministry of Heath;
  • Burial order from Home Affairs.
